This is a review of the table I made 4 years ago with the plans on this blog Still coming to grips with some of the technicalities of using youtube will try to get it fixed up and reposted. Thanks for watching!
Just to recap what the video says and add some more detail.
I have found the workbench to be an excellent addition to my work area. I can store lots of boxes under the table and out of the way. It is important to store things in an enclosed container in the workbench otherwise they can get covered in steel filing and wood shavings etc. I also find that the cheap plastic boxes you can buy work perfectly for this cause and the clear ones help to jog your memory as to whats inside if you forget like I do :).
The workbench has stood up to the rather brutal treatment I have given it rather well. It is still exactly as I made it although the top in nearing its life of usefullness and will need to be replaced soon. Luckily, this will be easily done with another painted sheet of MDF (medium density fiberboard).
I have made 2 more additions to my bench that you may like to add to yours or think about if you are contemplating buiding your own.
1) I have added 2 large drawers that open underneath the front of the workbench. This is where I store my PPE gear (safety glasses, ear protectors and dust mask) an often used hand tools in one draw and frequently used power tools in the other. THIS HAS BEEN A GREAT ADDITION!!! It is so easy to pack up and put away my commonly used tools now. If you struggle to put tools away as I used to this is a great system that helps to keep your area clean because clean up is so easy.
2) I added two power boards to the front of my workbench. No big deal just useful to have power right where I am working but still out of the way. And one switch turns all sockets off or on which I love.
In retrospect I probably over built the workbench I don't think I needed the fifth leg in the middle but better that than a bowed table.
Two other things I have added are:
1) the backing strip to the back of the benchtop this makes certain that the shelf or anything else on the table cant wonder off the table due to vibrations etc.
2) The white shelf which provides some additional space where it is most needed as you can see in the first picture.
The router table additional stays connected to the right workbench legs have been helpful but in due course I will build a router table.
